Robert Trotta

Master Instructor, Kutztown Dojo

Robert Trotta has more than 45 years’ experience in the martial arts. He began his training in 1972 under the tutelage of Korean master Young IL Kong. After three months, he left Mr. Kong to start his journey with Lawrence Flournoy in the arts of Mun Moo Kwan and Shotokan Karate. During his ten years with Flournoy Sensei, he also studied Aikido in Philadelphia with Shuji Maruyama Sensei. Trotta Sensei’s teaching experience began with instructing Karate at the local YMCA in 1976.

In 1981 he opened his first martial arts school in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, where he taught Karate and Aikido. Recruited to an executive protection school to teach empty hand combat skills, he naturally became fascinated with handguns. At the beginning of 1991, he turned over the operation of his school to his senior student in order to take on a full-time position as an executive protection agent, and became proficient in tactical shooting skills. In that capacity he trained with and instructed members of the NYPD Tactical Unit, corporate security personnel, Navy Seals, US Secret Service and other government agencies.

After having returned to Pennsylvania in 2005 and receiving a 7th Degree Black Belt in Karate, Trotta Sensei started the Hatfield (later Sellersville) Shuto Karate school and currently owns and operates the chapter of the Shuto Karate Club in Kutztown, PA.
